Learning about the Electric Toothbrush

An electric toothbrush is a device that uses electricity to move the head of the dental implement rapidly. The latter was made possible using the process known as rotation oscillation. This is where brush heads rotate in one direction and then the other.

The latest versions of this gadget run on low voltage, usually at 12 volts or even less. There are even some units that utilise a step-down transformer to power the brush. However, most of the models available include a battery in the handle. Usually, this type of toothbrush is also hermetically sealed to damage that might be caused by water. The earlier versions, on the other hand, used metal tabs to connect the device to the main charging base, while modern varieties employ contactless inductive charging. This means that the brush unit and charger stand each contain a coil of wire. When placed near each other, the stand’s powered coil transfers power by induction to the handle.

Many of these electric devices come equipped with a timer, which buzzes or briefly interrupts power. This typically happens after two minutes but, sometimes, it can be as short as 30 seconds. The aforementioned time units are associated with a customary recommendation for proper brushing.

On related note, some dental implement of this kind have a liquid crystal display (LCD) screens that show the brushing time. Others even come with creative smiley face icons or other images to encourage people to clean their teeth. The features mentioned specifically target people with communication or other physical difficulties.
